Differences between braceros and jewish Braceros were seen as cheap labor. European immigrants were more skilled. Mexican immigrants had an key souce of advocacy=businesses. Southern growers. Jewish groups tainted by their refugee status. Less favorerd for skilled immigrants. During cold war they blamed unskilled immigrants. Iron triangle. Congressman =senator eastland. Third prong is the INS. Foreign policy event=cold war (expansionist because of refugees). WWI-led to isolationism – restrictionist. 9/11 war on terror-restrictionist. Anti immigrant sentiment. 3 examples How were the new restrictionists different from the old? More economic related terms. Disiavow racial and ethnic rhetoric of the old restrictionists. They say its about environmentalism, economics, overcrowding. Its just about letting people in period. Example: Sierra Club. How was the select committee on immigration and refugee policy so different from the Dillingham commission?
