Midterm 2 Blue Book: November 17, 2010 Cognative Science : Midterm #1 : Study Guide Professor Mary Boyle : Fall 2010 What is the essential mind body problem? There is the physical mind=> regulated by chemical reactions, neural transmission but then there is also the mind that cannot be described by the physicallity of the brain. The mind can at times alter the brain, for instance in times of depression, the faulty circuit contributes to fault in the the orbitofrontal cortex. The essence boils down to this-> where in the mind does our sense of guilty/ morality/ etc exists? Practice questions to answer – a subset of these points will be on the midterm. Bring one blue book to the midterm – the blue books will collected at the beginning of the period on Wednesday and redistributed for the midterm once they have been approved – so do not mark the blue book ahead of time. Essays on mind body problem, embodiment, consciousness and neuro‐plasticity: Points to Consider and know: What constitutes a body? Do you need a mind to go along with the body?
