Music 206 07/28/2007 Concert Jazz Report (#2) On Sunday, 12 August 2007, there was a jazz performance held in Tula’s. The performance was carried by a jazz group which consists of around 17 to 18 people. 4 people were in charge of trumpet, 4 others played trombone, 5 played saxophone, 1 keyboardist, 1 drummer, 1 bassist, and 1 guitarist. On top of that there was a conductor who is coordinating the band. Therefore, I conclude that the jazz performers group is a big band, given all of the above factors. The performance started at 3 pm and extended till 7 pm in the evening. The Tula’s is kind of small if compared to places like the Jazz Alley (because I went there for my first concert report), however, I’m really surprised that it can contain such a fabulous big band with so many performers in it. The place was dark and there was not much lighting. It’s probably to create the ambient atmosphere in it. The square stage was at the centre, with the tables for the audience surrounding it. The audience who came to watch the performance was mostly adults whose age I think ranges around 30s – 50s. Here I saw more mixture of races compared to when I was in Jazz Alley, such as Westerners, Asians, and Africans. Also, the audience here even though dressed simply, somehow the place gives a friendly atmosphere unlike in the Jazz Alley, where most
