Chapman 1 The Unfinished Nation Part 1: Episodes 35 and 36 These episodes were mainly about World War I . Towards the end of the progressive era tensions ran at an all time high between the U .S. and several other nations. Once the Archduke of Austria was assassinated the gloves were off . The War to End All Wars began in 1914 and lasted four horrible long years . When all was said and done the U.S. came out on top. Even though 15 million people died (the most in history) I feel like this war was absolutely necessary for the future progression of the United States . In a sense war is just a game; each nation has to prove that they truly are the strongest, and smartest . It is like playing chess or playing a game of basketball, the only way to earn bragging rights is to defeat the opponent . The Allies eventually mopped up the Central Powers and won the game . During the course of the war many things had to be changed on the home front to compensate for all the missing men . Food, materials, clothes, etc. were sent to the men fighting
