Chapman 1 The Unfinished Nation Part 1: Episodes 9 and 10 July 4, 1778 the United States of America is finally free, no more rule from the British . That is a good thing, right? Now we have no currency, some articles that may or may not work during times of peace, and individual state governments, what have we gotten into? The first steps that need to be taken are to make sure that the other countries take the U . S . seriously and honor the treaties agreed upon . This did not work, at this time the U . S . is a joke and I think that the people knew that this was the case . After much dilemma visionaries such as George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, and Thomas Jefferson had to address the many issues with our rising country, and fast . We needed our 13 states to be united, not just on paper but really united . The Articles of Confederation were to be discussed, and they were . The problem was that nobody could get the nerve to rewrite all the articles so they decided to add on and change the articles to better fit our newly found
