Chapman 1 Michael Chapman Psychology 101 Extra Credit Sec . 005 Psychoanalytic Theory vs . Behaviorism The choice between Psychoanalytic Theory and Behaviorism is not an easy one . On one had you have an underlying influence of one’s unconscious mind . On the other hand you have classical conditioning of the mind . In my opinion another way to look at it is that in one circumstance you do not have the ability to change feelings, thoughts, urges, etc . In the other circumstance you do have to ability through classical conditioning to control these behaviors . What it ultimately comes down to is not having control vs . having control . However human psychology cannot be broken down into black and white quite so easily . There tends to be gray areas, these areas are what I would like to discuss . I cannot say one theory is all bad nor can I say one is all good, I think that it takes a combination of the two theories to define human behaviors . I would like to start with the Psychoanalytic Theory
