WR 98 Section F2 Finlayson Summary of In Defense of Dangerous Ideas Sept. 7th/10 Draft # 3 Why Do We Have to Put off “Dangerous Ideas”? In the contemporaries, we are susceptible to treacherous ideas. Professor Pinker insists in the passage, In Defense of Dangerous Ideas , that these ideas are challenging the already settled ethics. Also, as the ideas eradicate the social order regarding moral values, we have to prevent the ideas from invading into our society. These perilous ideas may be deceiving due to the fact that these “dangerous ideas” are cradled with evidence by “serious scientists and thinkers” (p1. line 7). Also, the “dangerous ideas” hurt a variety of people. Science baffles religions with advancing evolution theory, and globalization spreads ideas more broadly and rapidly. Because of the uses of the Internet, people are more susceptible to controversial matters. Besides, we cannot ignore the impact an idea has.
