____________________________. Problems dealt with university students arise/emerge from their childhood. If people do not detect the symptoms of cancers and eradicate the roots of them beforehand, their bodies get eventually devoured by the lumps of cancers. In “This Boy’s Life,” Tobias Wolff (known as Jack in the book) does not completely cure himself, so he traps himself within the problems that Robert C. Bartlett argues in “Today’s Students: Souls without Longing.” One of the problems Jack suffers from is abuse. In “This Boy’s Life,” Tobias “Jack” Wolff’s family gets separated twice because of abuse, mostly physical abuse. Abuse takes away people’s rights to be happy . Throughout the book, Jack manifests that Andrew Sullivan’s ideas are correct, which are addressed in “Abolition of Torture,” in that inhuman acts render people subhuman. Toby’s case in physical abuse reacts as a support/catalyst to Sullivan’s idea because even abuse ruins one’s life—that is, no need to deal with torture.
