Jonson 1Old Good LifeThe good life is something everyone subconsciously wants but is rarely defined by the individual. For most, the good life is defined by culture with few disagreements. This has been true for me up until this past week. The good life is something I haven’t really thought about but subconsciously had the desire for society’s definition of the good life with minor disagreements. Culture has defined the example of the good life as someone that’s rich, famous, self-empowered, has many friends, and looks the part of success. Someone that lives the good life to society is superficial, fake, and ahead of the trends. This life is one that I have often yearned for; to feel accepted by society based off of outward expressions of “success”. The true good life alsoincludes feeling loved and accepted by everyone around me, and for conflict to be minimized. If I were to follow this so called “good life”, I would end up empty. New Good LifeAfter this week in class, the good life was redefined for me in a drastic way. I realized thetrue good life is not based on materialistic possessions or how you look to society, instead it is based on classical happiness and the virtues of who you are inside.
