The article I chose to explore was from the journal , titled Social Interactions across Media: Interpersonal Communication on the Internet, Telephone, and Face-to-Face. The purpose of this article was to compare the amounts of interpersonal communication between college students via the internet, the phone, and in person. In the two studies presented in the article, the first study was used to determine the amount of social interactions that college students conducted through the internet compared to physical interaction and telephone calls. The second study, which was a survey, compared participants reported use of the internet with their local and long- distance social circles to the use of other media within those circles. In more layman terms, this survey compared how often students used the internet with people they live in close proximity with than people who live far away in relation to the phone or person to person contact. The first research question that was presented in study one was intended to narrow down the variety of ways people communicate over the internet, such as email, instant messaging, or blogs. The research question one was stated: “What kinds of internet media do college students report using for significant social interactions?” Research questions two through five were aimed to interpret how internet interaction is dispersed throughout the daily maintenance of relationships. Research question two says: “What are the relative frequencies of significant voluntary social interactions that college students report conducting on the internet in comparison to face-to-face conversations and telephone calls?” Research question three states: “How many media do students Social Interactions 3
