English 310-03 MEMORANDUM Date: January 19, 2010 To: Sherrie Amido From: Re: Message Analysis for Campus Catering Debacle The purpose of the memo is to analyze what is and is not effective about the email, Campus Catering Debacle. Overall, this email was not at all effective in achieving its desired goal because it was written in the heat of the moment and not planned out. Planning an Email When writing a business message, half your time is used for planning and half your time for writing. The date of the email shows that it was sent out the same night that the debacle occurred. The author of this email clearly did not take time to plan for sending out this email. Consequently, the email seems rushed and in the heat of the moment resulting in many grammatical errors and capitalized, bolded sentences. Message Recipients The author sent the email to all Liberal Arts faculty and requests that the email is forwarded to any “good students” who voice their complaints. This email should be limited to recipients who attended the presentation. The email addressed to the catering company
