Study Problems and Control Questions MEMS 1054 This is not a homework assignment. These are study problems for you to ponder. With a little effort and intellectual engagement, perhaps with a little help from colleagues and friends, you should be able to find the solutions/answers. Consult the textbooks where necessary for additional reading that might be required. The basic subject coverage of the lectures should have put you in a position where you are able to succeed. These type of questions and problems should assist in preparing for the exam. 1) Work on problems 3-3, 3-4 and 3-6 of the Problems-section at the end of Chapter 3 in the textbook by Cullity. Include the various steps of your calculations and show how you got to your answer alone. 2) Consider an x-ray powder diffraction experiment from an unknown elemental substance. You have been told that the substance is cubic. How many diffraction lines do you have to collect in your diffraction pattern in order to identify the Bravais lattice of the substance, i.e.
