Read with comprehension sections of Chapters 5 and 14 of Cullity and Stock. Specifically relevant are sections 5.1, 5.2, 5.5 and 14.1 14.2, 14.3 14.4 and 14.6 in Cullity and Stock. 2) Calculate the width (breadth) in degrees of 2 Θ of a diffraction peak line observed in a powder XRD pattern at Θ , that is due to the size effect alone if the sample consists of crystalline powder particles with average diameter of a. 100 nm b. 75 nm c. 50 nm d. 25 nm. Assume that the diffraction line has a Bragg angle Θ =45˚, and that the X-rays have wavelength λ =0.15 nm. For the same XRD set up, calculate the peak width (breadth), B, that would be observed for the 25 nm diameter particles (d. above) for diffraction lines with i) Θ =10˚, ii) Θ =80˚. 3)
