Diffraction • Crystals scatter waves of suitable sub-micron wavelengths radiation (e.g. X-rays) coherently, producing diffracted beams (DB). • Diffracted beams are caused by constructive and destructive interference of the scattered wave amplitudes. • The spatial intensity distribution of the diffracted beams is recorded in a diffraction pattern. • A profound geometrical relationship between the diffraction pattern and the crystal structure.
