Choice or Life 3 The two theories on the act of crime that I am going to compare and contrast are the choice theory, and the life course theories. The two theories can go hand and hand because even though you have had a bad childhood most still know right from wrong and can judge what a crime is. However, where these two theories go there different ways, is when someone chooses to rob a bank, and increase their money status. This choice is made to take this money. The punishment was weighed out and thought through. However, if you ask the criminal why they did it and they lie then this would be because of their life course because, the criminal uses lies as an automatic response. The crime trend that I am choosing to explain its relationship is poverty crimes. Crimes from poverty are from the choice theory. I feel this way because growing up below the poverty level I had to make choices based on the consequences of the crime. I would have to choose whether to shoplift from a
