BUSINESS ETHICS 2 Business Ethics “Business ethics is the study and evaluation of decision making by business according to moral concepts and judgments (Betz, 1998).” Business ethics exists quite apart from politics in matters of simple, basic ethical norms like those prohibiting race discrimination and sexual harassment. Even though not all issues are unethical, decisions made in the workplace should be on ethics because of situations such as conflict of issues. One ethical issue that affects our community and organization is race discrimination. “Discrimination is an ethical issue – beyond any legal protections – because it is at the core of fairness in the workplace (Trevino & Nelson, 2007).” If an African American, who was qualified and a Caucasian, who has no experience at all, were up for promotion, but the person who received the job was the un-experienced Caucasian, would be an example of race
