Artificial Sweeteners for Artificial Sweeteners for the Kill Since the 70’s, all I ever heard was “do not use artificial sweeteners, it will cause cancer”. I never questioned anyone, “How you know?”. I was just a child. I am grown up now, married and have grandchildren. Now I hear, “it is alright to use artificial sweeteners”. This is due to the fact that scientific advancements have led scientists to being more knowledgeable. I have done research of my own. Finding new evidence to prove what I am hearing, now, is correct. According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Consumer, US consumers are well within acceptable levels that can be consumed safely every day over a lifetime (2006). To date, five artificial sweeteners are approved by the FDA: aspartame, saccharin, acesulfame-K, neotame, and sucatose. The agency regulates artificial sweeteners as food additives, which must be approved as safe, before they can be marketed (Federal Food and Drug Administration Consumer, 2006).These sweeteners have become essential for people watching
