ETX 138 2010 Midterm Preparation Sheet EXAM QUESTIONS FOR ETX 138 MIDTERM Bring a Blue Book to write your answers. The midterm is worth 150 points, 25% of the course grade. No notes or books can be consulted during the exam. You will be required to answer 3 of 6 questions for the midterm. Each question will be worth 50 points. Four of the questions on the exam will be drawn from the first six questions below. You will be required to answer two of the four questions. You will also be required to answer one analytical question. There will two types of analytical questions; they are described below in questions 7 and 8. Be sure to spell out acronyms. 1. This question focuses on the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). a. Describe the incident which ultimately lead to the adoption of NEPA (5 points). b. Summarize what federal agencies must do under NEPA and what is not required from federal agencies under NEPA (10 points) c. When must an EIS be prepared? Give an example of a project that would require an EIS. (10 points) d. What are the responsibilities of the Council on Environmental Quality? (5 points). e. Give two examples of actions that are functionally equivalent to CEQA? (10 points) f. Name the items that have to be included in an EIR? (10 points) 2. This question focuses on the federal government’s efforts to address the problem of air pollution through the Clean Air Act and subsequent amendments. a. Describe an incident that led to enactment of the Clean Air Act. (5 points)
