Di ko maayos ung sa prehistoric paki ayos na lang. ... Egyptian Art The ancient Egyptians were fascinating people. To think what they accomplished almost three thousand years ago. The themes behind the art that they created are much more different than those survivalistic themes of the prehistoric, Neolithic people. There are changes because the culture, the ancient Egyptian culture, changes. No longer do we have hunters and gatherers. We have a people that have domesticated animals. They’ve settle down at the foot of the Nile, growing their own foods, harvesting their own foods. We can see a shift taking place, a transition in the art as well. Their art is almost based on a formula. It’s much more stylized in structure than the art of the prehistoric people. The primary theme behind Egyptian art was this fascination, this belief system in death, afterlife, and reincarnation. We can notice that Egyptian society was a hierarchy and the pyramid was a really a symbol with the pharaoh as the highest part of that hierarchy. He was at his apex. Now, the art is very different than prehistoric art. There was really no sense of three dimensionality or death in the tomb paintings. The pyramids were very monumental, very strong, powerful, and almost aloof, very similar to the ancient Egyptian culture and its leaders. One of the key things we will learn, is the concept called Fractional Representation or Frontality. The Ancient Egyptians believed that, if they were not represented with all their limbs attached and visible, that they would come back from the afterlife missing that particular limb. So in order to guarantee that an image would be an adequate home for the soul, the Egyptian Artist was compelled to follow certain rules. The rules would later on be called the
