GENDER AND SEXUAL ORIENTATION DISCRIMINATION 2 Introduction Gender discrimination is an action that denies opportunities, rewards, or privileges because of their assumed or actual gender. It is often caused by common societal misconceptions on how men and women are supposed to behave and age long traditions. Gender discrimination is a major subject for many governments in the world. This document addresses sexual and gender orientation in work places. In developed countries like the United States and Europe there is a significant gap in the earnings between men and women. The hourly wage for women was 80 per cent that of men in US, in France it was 84, and in Sweden 84 also. A study that was conducted in Taiwan, South Korea, and Japan shows that gender discrimination is a global issue. Taiwan has the least amount of earning gaps among the three.
