You may have to confirm to the system that you really want to do this since a table named WBS already exists in the example database. If a confirmation window appears warning you that the table WBS already exists in the example database, just click on the OK control button. You have now exported the OBS table in the Hierarchy database into the WBS table in the example project database. Now close the Hierarchy database by clicking on the Exit control button in the Alternate Hierarchies Menu window. Figure 6-19. Export window. Page 163 You can experiment with getting project reports in this new alternate view by reopening the example project database and displaying or printing any of the project reports that were organized in accordance with the WBS. You will see that they are now organized in accordance with the OBS, rather than the WBS. The Cost Comparison Report and the Status Report based on the OBS hierarchy are illustrated in Figures 6- 21 and 6-22. Later, when you want to produce project reports organized around the WBS, you will need to repeat the process just explained, but this time exporting the WBS table in the Hierarchies database into the WBS table in the example project database. 6.5.3— Hierarchy Maintenance On a large project it is not unusual to want to have several views of the project. So, in addition to needing a hierarchy entry and edit tool, there is also a need for a hierarchy display tool to display (or print) the various hierarchies for comparison. Consequently, the WBS Listing tool that you are already familiar with is included on the Alternate Hierarchies Menu. If you reopen the Hierarchies database, rename the WBS hierarchy "New WBS," and rename the OBS hierarchy "WBS," then you can display the OBS hierarchy in a WBS Listing report. To do this, simply click on the header of the Alternate Hierarchies Menu, and then click on the control button labeled WBS Listing . This will produce a listing of the OBS hierarchy, as shown in Figure 6 -20. TE

In this chapter we discuss interfacing scheduling systems with Modern Project. We begin with an extended discussion of resource scheduling, taking up where we left off in Chapter 2. Then we discuss the advantages and disadvantages of manually interfacing a scheduling system to the rest of a project management system. It may seem surprising, but it is often best if project scheduling is not very tightly integrated with the rest of a project management system. We conclude the chapter with a demonstration of an automated interface between Microsoft Project and Modern Project. Since every sch...
