Sasha Rozenberg 4/22/07 Per. 1 U.S. Interventions 1. What are some of the more outrageous examples of imperialism? Some of the most outrageous examples of imperialism were in Vietnam which lasted for 23 years and in Cuba which still goes on till today. Ho Chi Mihn in the eyes of America was some kind of a communist, even though he favored everything American. He would write letters to President Truman at the time asking America to help Vietnam with it’s independence from the French; all he wanted was a peaceful solution for his country. Because all of his treaties were ignored, he came up with the Vietnamese Declaration of Independence. But still America was convinced the Ho Chi Mihn was a communist. American forces invaded Vietnam and were there for 23 years. They killed over a million people for the sake of destroying communism. The military forces may have finally pulled out, but Vietnam was destroyed, the fields for growing food were poisoned, and many generations to come would have difficulties. In the eyes of many people the Americans had lost the war, but for Washington it was a mission accomplished because they prevented what might have rose into “a good development option for Asia. Ho Chi Minh was, after all, some kind of communist” stated by William Blum. The Second example was in 1959 when Fidel Castro came into power of Cuba.
