Anthr 130-5927: Cultural Anthropology Instructor: Jayne Smithson Diablo Valley College: Online Course E-Mail: [email protected] Summer 2010 Course Description The purpose of this course is to provide students with an introduction to the behavioral, rather than physical, adaptations and developmental aspects of the human species. Anthr 130 is a survey course of the role of Culture as a basic aspect of human communities worldwide. DVC Student Learning Outcomes (SLO) for this course are as follows: SLO 1. analyze how behavior in different cultural groups is adaptive and/or maladaptive. SLO 2. describe the advantages and disadvantages of cultural relativism. SLO 3. assess the impact of modernization and globalization on human cultures. SLO 4. apply the scientific method to understand human cultural behavior. SLO 5. evaluate importance of saving traditional cultures.
