Aleksandra Rozenberg 6/19/10 anth 130 Cultural Relativism Truth is relative; my American Russian culture is no more superior to other cultures. This way of thought is helpful in understanding that there are many beliefs that are equally valid, but are very different. I researched traditions within other cultures and found practices that are unusual to me, yet I can still appreciate from my point of view. On the other hand there is ethnocentrism, this is when one believes that their culture and truth is the most important and overrules other cultures. This way of thinking is close- minded and in my point of view moving backwards. The first topic I looked into was religion, the world’s largest pilgrimage is held in India called Kumb Mela. This is a Hindu festival, which only takes place every 12 years. The legend explains that the gods and demons created nectar, which possessed immortality, but this caused a fight between the gods and demons over who was to get this nectar (Kumb Mela). During this fight four drops of nectar fell onto the earth (India),
