1/17/11 Course description : This course is best for the absolute beginner and the self taught intermediate guitarist. This course will accelerate the learning process and get you playing better, faster. Guitar 1 will get a beginner off to a good start and help intermediate players identify and address weaknesses before they become bad habits. By introducing basic music theory concepts, the course can make it easier to learn popular songs or write your own. Course materials, assignments, and resources will be located on TRACS. You must be able and/or willing to access the TRACS server to Texas State University MU2310: Class Guitar 1 Syllabus

1/17/11 Course Objectives Students in this class will learn: 1. standard chords and barre chords. 2. several rhythm styles. 3. Major and Pentatonic scales 4. songs in a variety of styles 5. music theory as it applies to popular music. Attendance policy Attendance will be taken daily. 1. 4 unexcused absences will drop your final grade by one letter grade. 2. 6 unexcused absences will lower your final letter grade by two letter grades. 3. 7 unexcused absences will earn you an F.

1/17/11 Excused absences 1. Legitimate absences will be excused if you bring documentation proving necessity of the absence. 2. Excuses must be turned in within a week after you return to school. 3. If you are late to class, it is your responsibility to speak with me after class to assure that I make the adjustment to the roll.
