The Sexual Response Cycle The sexual response cycle is what describes the changes in the bodies of men and women when they are sexually aroused. During this cycle there are four phases that both men and women go through when they experiencing sexual tendencies. These phases of the sexual response cycle are: Excitement, Plateau, Orgasm and Resolution. Reading further I will explain the common changes that happen between a man and a woman when they are going through within the phases of the sexual response cycle and the sexual dysfunctions and treatments that are out there for them problems. Excitement Phase During the excitement phase Vasocongestion happens to both men and women, although at different rates. In women the vasocongestion is known as vaginal lubrication and it will start around ten to thirty seconds after sexual arousement during the heat of passion. For men this time is close to three to eight seconds and at that time the men’s skin around the testicals (scrotal) tightens up and rises. The excitement phase in women is well defined. Skin is flushed to a rose pink in color and nipples on the breast become rigid along with an increase of heart beating faster and their blood pressure may become elevated. Plateau Phase During the sexual arousement the next phase of sexual contact is called the plateau. At this time the sexual provocation remains long standing. Men have a noticeable size increase in the circumference on the penis and the skin on the penis will change in color to a purplish tint.
