Pinal Patel POLS 1101 Jason Villarreal November 11, 2010 Barack Obama’s 2010 Affordable Health Care Act Barack Obama signed major piece of legislation into law that will make significant changes to the provision, availability and requirements of health insurance in America, including changes that affect the Federal employee Health benefits program (Frary). “On November 4, 2009, the House of Representatives passed its version of health care reform legislation by 220- 215 vote. On December 24, 2009, the Senate passed its bill by 60-39 vote. On March 21, 2010, the House of Representatives passed the bill by 219-212 vote” (Dunham). On March 23, 2010, he signed H.R. 3590, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act into law. This reform reduces the premium cost of millions of people in America and helps to get health coverage at minimum cost. This reform “will ensure that all Americans have access to quality, affordable health care and will create the transformation within the health care system necessary to contain costs. The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) has determined that the PPACA is fully paid for, will provide coverage to more than 94% of Americans while staying under the $900 billion limit that President Obama established, bending the health care cost curve, and reducing the deficit over the next ten years and beyond” (Responsible Reform). This act has nine titles, which contains specific components of reform. As above noted, this act will provide coverage to almost all Americans under $900 billion limit. By lowering the health care cost, the unemployment rate will decrease; there will be more jobs and also benefit individual financially. However, before the PPACA was acted, almost all
