GS311-01 “Beyond the Stacks: Finding Images, Securing Copyright at the Library” Speakers: Lee Sorensen, Image Resource Librarian, Perkins Library Kevin Smith, JD, Scholarly Communications Officer Date/Time: Sept 10, 2009 10:00-11:30am Location: Bostock Library, Room 023 Description: Explore scholarly image resources for use in teaching and publishing, as well as procedures for obtaining copyright clearance. Learn tips for projecting images in the classroom, creating visual collections, and helping students use images in their research and writing. To Register: (2 credits) (Open to all Ph.D. students; space is limited) GS311-02 “Setting Expectations and Resolving Conflict in Mentoring Relationships” Speaker: Tomalei Vess, Ph.D., Associate Director for Education & Training Institute for Genome Sciences and Policy Date/Time: Sept 14, 2009 3:00-5:00pm Location: French Science Center, Room 4233 Description: Relations between faculty, students, postdoctoral fellows, and other mentees are often regarded by the mentees as the most important aspect of the quality of their research training experiences. Interpersonal conflicts between mentor and mentees are often the result of the lack of mutually understood expectations. This workshop focuses on principles of and steps used in applying the interest-based approach to resolving conflicts and setting explicit expectations. To Register
