OBJECTIVE 1.To use the linear track to investigate Newton’s Second Law of Motion2.To determine if the system has an acceleration directly proportional to the force applied to the entire system by graph3.To ensure if the slope of the graph is the mass of the system. APPARATUSAir track, fotogate counter, stopwatch, string, additional masses to be attached to the hanger (10g,20g,30,40g,50g and 60g)PROCEDURE1.The equipment is set up. The air supply that is attached to the air track is turned on and the glider on the air track is set to glide end to end to see how frictionless the surface is. 2.The additional masses are attached to the hanger.3.The mass of the air track glider is measured, including the hook attachment for connecting the string.4.The mass of the hanger is also measured.5.One of the string’s ends is attached to the hanger and the other end to the glider.6.The glider is released and data is acquired.
