Stat 4714 Fall 2010 HW 8 Descriptive Statistics Due Friday October 15 th at 1:15pm (1) The file hw7_volt.jmp contains 6 observations from 5 different sites regarding threshold voltage (in volts.) Use JMP to do parts a and b. Note: See instructions on scholar in JMP folder. (a) Find the mean and standard deviation for each site. (b) Generate and format the histogram and the outlier boxplot (not quantile boxplot). (c) Use the boxplot to identify the first, second and third quartiles and the interquartile range. (d) Use your output for (a) and (b) to identify similarities/differences among the 5 sites. (2) Suppose we have a sample mean of 25 mm and a standard deviation of 2 mm for a sample of 10 measurements. We discovered that the instrumentation was off by 1mm. If we add this amount to each of our measurements, what is the new mean and standard deviation for our sample of 10 measurements? (3) Create a separate stem –and-leaf plot (using JMP) for each the following samples: (a) 0.57, 0.34, 0.43, 0.32, 0.48, 0.40, 0.40 (b) 602, 610, 624, 614, 608, 633, 659, 622 (c) 1015, 1011, 1025, 1032, 1045, 1003, 1008, 1018, 1020 (4)

### What students are saying

• As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

Kiran Temple University Fox School of Business ‘17, Course Hero Intern

• I cannot even describe how much Course Hero helped me this summer. It’s truly become something I can always rely on and help me. In the end, I was not only able to survive summer classes, but I was able to thrive thanks to Course Hero.

Dana University of Pennsylvania ‘17, Course Hero Intern

• The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
