Name(s) of Group Members: Date: Lab Section: Lab Report #1: Bird Song The purpose of this lab is twofold: 1. To compare the number of phrases, the number of phrase types, and the average song length of normal versus isolated white-crowned sparrows 2. To compare the number of phrases, the number of phrase types, and the average song length of white-crowned sparrows during different stages of development. You will be using the program Raven Lite ( http://www.birds.cornell.edu/brp/raven/RavenOverview.html ) developed by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology to analyze white-crowned sparrow vocalizations. You will be working in groups of 2 to analyze a series of songs. Please refer to the chart on page 3 for the order in which to analyze the files that are placed on your computer’s desktop. To locate these files, go to: Desktop Folder “songs” To open these files in Raven Lite: start up the program Raven Lite on your desktop File menu Open sound files scroll down until you see the folder “songs” appear in the
