Response: Ms. Chopin’s short story sagaciously employs the storm to move forward the extramarital affair between the housewife Calixta and her old acquaintance Alcee. At the beginning of the storm, they met after not having seen each other for many years; during the climax of the storm, they engaged in an adulterous affair; after the storm, they said goodbye happily and contently to each other. Here, the storm is not normally to describe having a sexual affair between couples but to portray the ardor for a one-night stand. The storm illustrated an apt setting where the two protagonists burst away from the constrains of their marriages and enjoyed a stormy affair. After Calixta and Alcee’s sexual

Li, 2 This romantic story was written by Kate Chopin in late nineteen century. The author thoroughly portrays Calixta, a representative of the feminism daring to break the constrain to derive a momentary sexual freedom at that orthodox time. Thorough the whole affair, I can feel that both Colixta and Alicee have happy and normal marriages, and they both care about their spouses and children. Moreover, I do not think that the two families will be threatened by this affair. After all, a storm is a storm. After washed out by a storm, everything is as new and fresh as a beginning....
