1/18/11 Short Background on John Dalton The Atomic Theory Other Contribution JOHN DALTON: John Dalton was an English Chemist and Physicist born on the 6th of September in the year 1766 at Eaglesfield, England. His parents were Joseph Dalton and Deborah Greenup. He was the second of three children. Jonathan and He became a teacher at Kendal England from 1781 until 1793 before he finally went to Manchester where he will spend the rest of his life. John Dalton also suffered from color- blindness which is now also called as Daltonism named after him. In 1896, the book containing Dalton’s most important contribution, “A New View of the Origin of Dalton’s Atomic Theory”, was published. That is his Atomic Theory. John Dalton never married and he died in Manchester in 1844 for paralysis. He had two previous attacks of stroke which rendered him paralytic.
