Explanation: A working definition of data mining is “the discovery of interesting, unexpected, or valuable structures in large datasets” (Hand, 2007). Data mining is a very popular data exploration tool, which mainly discusses how to piece hidden useful information from vast amounts of data when decision makers need some references (Chang, 2007). The applications of data mining technique range from banking, finance, marketing, manufacturing, healthcare, customer behavior analysis, and etc (Chang, 2007). Comparison: According to the book, to perform data mining users need data-mining tools such as query tools, reporting tools, multidimensional analysis tools, statistical tools and intelligent agents ( ). However, in my research, I understand that modern data mining combines statistics with ideas, tools and methods from computer science, machine learning, database technology and other classical data analytical technologies (Hand, 2007).
