Followership Followership Concept The first thing the team learned from the readings was the existence of the actual term followership. More specifically, it was the first time actually hearing the term “followership” compared and contrasted to the more common terminology “leadership”. The word “follower” can sometimes be related to a negative connotation. However, from the reading, followers are critical to have in any organizations. Leaders need followers to help achieve goals and without followers there would be no purpose for leaders. Leaders guide followers to achieve a specific goal or goals. Even though the wording “follower” has some negative connotations, there is a positive connotation that must be addressed. A follower can be an asset if the goal of the follower is not to be controlled but to help or complement a team or organizational goal. Without followers, leaders cannot be effective and
