Name: Guangxin Wang Date: 01/012/2011 Class: WR 121 Short Assignment #2 In John Taylor Gatto’s essay titled “Against School: How public education cripples our kids, and why”, he writes how American modern public education system “Cripples” the students and needs to be completely reformed. It is as if school is like a factory, we send children in, and they are supposed to come out all the same. Gatto expresses the idea that implementing such education practices promotes civil obedience was adopted from Prussian culture. He asserts that the foundation of secondary schools consist, “to make good people, to make good citizens, and to make each person his or her personal best” are completely false. Reg Weaver is president of the National Education Association, has thirty years of teaching experience. In his article, “NCLB’s Excessive Reliance on Testing Is Unrealistic, Arbitrary, and Frequently Unfair”, Mr. Weaver expresses his belief that the present definition of “adequate yearly progress” is at the core of what is wrong
