Stacey Huber Psych 306 October 6, 2010 Lesson Plan Class Objectives 1. For students to continue practicing resume writing through peer editing workshops and feedback discussions 2. For students to understand the common cover letter features and formats and begin formulating a cover letter through in class exercises Class Materials: 1. “Would You Rather” slips of paper for ice breaker 2. Handout for Cover Letter Practice Exercises and Tips Intro to Weekly Discussion (5-10 minutes) 1. Write Agenda on Board a. Career Reports b. Ice Breaker c. Draft Resumes-Peer Editing d. Cover Letter Practice e. Next Week: Cover Letter Draft Due & Emma outline; Options after college panel f. Reminder: Info Interview due Nov 10, start reaching out! 2. Have students arrange seats into circle if they have not already done so 3. Ask students to hand in both copies of draft resume. I will be handing out one copy to a peer 4. Ask if there are any questions about today’s lecture 5. Hand Back Career Reports a. Ask if there are any questions/concerns about the feedback on the career reports 6. Take Attendance (fill out attendance tracker sheet) Activities/Discussion (35 minutes) 1. Ice Breaker: Would you rather? a. Each student will take a slip of paper that will be folded up in my hands. These are all going to have “would you rather?” statements on them. Statements include i. Win the lottery or find true love? ii.
