Unit 9 Final Project Page 2 Unit 9 Final Project: Pathfinder Pathfinder Topic: Child Sex Tourism The commercial sexual exploitation of children affects two million minors each year, in countries on every continent. One form of this exploitation is the growing phenomenon of Child Sex Tourism (CST), which is fueled by weak law enforcement, the internet, ease of travel and poverty. Child Sex Tourism is the act of sexual exploitation, sexual abuse and child prostitution. It affects these children in every aspect of their lives. It is a crime that continues to grow at a steady pace, with children becoming victims of prostitution, child pornography and sex trafficking. The offenders who commit these horrendous crimes often travel to many different countries to sexually exploit children. Offenders are most prevalent in countries such as Asia, Central and South America and Cambodia, to name a few. Their crimes produce large amounts of revenue in these countries, since many times government officials will turn a blind eye in exchange for money so that the offenders can get away with their victims. In America, Child Sex Tourism is a crime that is constantly growing, with offenders often coming into the U.S. from other countries in order to buy the children for their corrupt business. The United States is moderately becoming stricter in regards to CST, with laws such as H.R. 1623- the International Megan’s Law and the domestic Megan’s Law, which helps communities by notifying them when a sex offender lives or moves into their area. H.R. 1623 would also
