Discussion ?’s for final exam. 1. Employee benefits that are required by law and those that re optional? There are four benefits that an employer must participate in that are required by law. First is social security, which is the federal old age, survivors, disability and health insurance program often, refereed to as OASDHI. Then there is unemployment insurance which provides payment to offset lost income during involuntary unemployment, and it helps unemployed workers find new jobs. Then there is workers compensation which is a state program that provides benefits to workers who suffer work related injuries or illnesses, or to there survivors. And last there is family and medical leave which gives employees up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave for childbirth, adoption, or serious illness. Some optional benefits include paid leave, insurance, and retirement plans. These are the most common optional benefits offered to employees. 2.
