1. If I were answering Kim Allred’s question, I would have stated something similar to Ed Jackson. The opening statement would have been an acknowledgement that Kim has not had the experience in preparing the departmental plans for the next fiscal year. I would have gone on further to state some guidelines to assist Kim in preparing the departmental plan. Kim was made aware of the company’s objectives or goals in the previous month. Management would like to have a detailed list or process of how Kim intends to accomplish her department’s objectives. 2. Kim Allred needs to have a day for brainstorming. Once Kim has the initial legwork completed, she needs to organize her thoughts. Kim needs to write out a detailed plan of action for each objective. Kim should also devise alternative plans to achieving management’s objectives. 3. Kim’s initial reaction did not surprise me.
