EXPERIMENT 6 Optical Spectroscopy Write the answers to these pre-laboratory questions in your lab notebook. Answers to these questions are due at the beginning of your lab section during the week of October 18–22. Additionally, as you will be recording visible light spectra in lab, you are encouraged to bring colored pencils, markers, crayons, etc. to lab with you so that you may record your spectra in color. Pre-laboratory Questions: 1. Write the experiment title and purpose in your lab notebook. 2. Explain the difference between continuous and line spectra. 3. Explain the difference between absorption and emission spectra. 4. For an atom with the energy levels below, what wavelength light (in nm) will be emitted in a transition between E 3 and E 1 (indicated by the down arrow below)? What wavelength of light must be absorbed to cause a transition between E 4 and E 5 (indicated by the up arrow below)? E
