3713945 ETS10D Background Genetic engineering (GE) makes it possible for scientists to create plants and animals by controlling genes in a way that does not occur naturally. The world population has reached 6 billion people and is predicted to double in the next 50 years. Guaranteeing an adequate food supply is going to be a major challenge. Genetically modified (GM) food promise to meet this need in a number of ways. Question Genetic engineering creates serious risks to human health and the environment. Do you agree? Abstract The purpose of this essay is to examine that genetic engineering (GE) causes serious risks to human health and the environment. By means of research of secondary source collection, relevant evidence is selected, evaluated and organised into three key areas: genetically modified (GM) foods are unsafe to human health, genetically engineered crops causes hazards to the surrounding by killing insects and they also damage the plants. In order to explain and demonstrate the effects of these three areas on both human health and the environment, evidence based on research and experts’ opinions are used. The research results strongly suggest that genetically modified food are not safe for human, Bacillus thuringiensis (BT)toxin in GM Crops kills the insects, and genetically engineered Crops damage the plants. Based on these findings, the argument is advanced that GE threaten humans and the nature. It is recommended that governments should make strict laws to prevent the use of this technology until evidence that is safe is proven.

3713945 ETS10D Genetic engineering has been developed and used by scientists for a long time. In fact, modern genetic engineering began in 1970s when enzymes are used to cut bacteria and insert DNA in the gap. Moreover, it is the science of inherited genes used by scientists or the deliberate modification of genes. Many people think this technology is useful and safe while others believe that it is dangerous and causes grave hazards. This essay will argue that genetic engineering creates serious risks to human health and the environment. This is firstly because genetically modified food causes allergic reactions and other illnesses to humans, secondly as genetically modified crops pose risks to the environment by killing insects through Bacillus thuringiensis toxin, thirdly since they also damage the plants through transgenic virus-resistance.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
