Purpose: The objectives of this lab were to show different casting processes and the effects they have on the metals. Each metal exhibits certain specifications and characteristics that play a key role in how the metal is used and performs while in use. Three different metals were used during the lab, each showed different strengths and ductility as well as unique melting points. Different casting methods must be used for specific applications; a clam shell mold and open faced mold were used in the lab. 1. Describe in clear, concise, and interesting prose what you did and what you learned in this exercise. There were two steps to this lab; the first was pouring three metals tin, bismuth and a eutectic alloy into an open faced mold. Each metal was poured into its own individual channel and allowed to air cool. The second step was to pour the eutectic alloy in a clam shell mold to produce a “Stevens” plaque. The metal had to be poured into a hole on the top side of mold till it spewed out from the overflow hole indicating the mold was full. The clam shell mold cooled the
