Style in Cinema what is style? o It is the repeated and salient use of film techniques characteristics of a single film or group of films Stylization o Thought of in terms of flashness o Film techniques that call attention to themselves Stylistic Patterns o Major part of any film o Stylistic patterns can be seen in several films by the same filmmaker o Ex-lush colors in do the right thing, handheld camera in children of men, fast editing in bourne supremacy Group Style o Refers to the consistent use of techiques across the work of several filmmakers Style and the filmmaker o A films style results from a mix of historical constraints and deliverate choices o Filmmaker makes certain technical choices and adheres to them throughout the film o Might stand out as varying from the fim’s normal usage but in general a film tends to rely on consistent usage of certain techniques Style and Narrative o Filmmakers often plan the style to reflect the progression of the scene
