What places a group of films in a genre? o Subjects or themes Gangster = urban crime Sci fi= out there technology Western = life on some frontier exceptions o no so central to defining other genres musicals= manner of presentation Chicago, hairspray= different Broadness of genres o More or less broad Trillers = horror, cop, hostage, etc one or the other?
