FMSC 383 April 5, 2010 Aging Demographics and Developmental Stages Baby boomers are aging and there are a lot of them Ages 19-29 = Generation Millenials o About 4% say they have a good work ethic Obesity is a growing problem Need to think about how all the issues on the slide are translating to aging Don’t need to know the retirement stages for the exam Older Americans Act, 1965 Challenges o Grandparents are not always in the best physical or emotional capacity o When grandparents are parenting, it’s harder for them to provide health insurance for children o People have a lot of ideas for what older people can and cannot do o When thinking about preventing elder abuse, think about how to prevent caregivers from getting worn out in the process o Depression and dementia are the two main mental health
