Unformatted text preview: Running head: Use of Information Technology in Health Care 1 Use of Information Technology in Health Care Darren Nussel Liberty University Abstract Use of Information Technology in Health Care 2 Health information technology makes available complete organization of medical information and can be exchanged among providers and health care consumers. Expansive use of health information technology possesses the likelihood in advancing health care excellence, enhances the competence of care terms, decrease redundant health care expenses, prevents medical mistakes, reduces paperwork, boost administrative efficiencies, advance population health, and expands access to affordable care. This literature review also describes the formation and implementation phases, barriers, benefits, and policy issues in health technology. Use of Information Technology in Health Care 3 Health information technology is the foundation of a dream for the expectations of American medicine which is gaining harmony among public and private policymakers all over the country. As visualized today, Americans will, in the future, live through a health care structure where different providers across an otherwise disjointed delivery structure will communicate health documents in real time using a network of electronic medical record systems. Application of IT in Health Care Technology includes the knowledge, skills, and the ability to comprehend, create and use practical things. In essence, it is the handy function of knowledge. According to the World Health Organization, technology in health field includes machinery, equipment, drugs (including medicines), and medical supplies (Sivić, Masic, Petkovic, Huseinagic, Tandir, & Zunic, 2009). In other words, technology has a broad collection of assets that embrace not just hardware, but also the organization of care used for patients and procedures in the health field. There are a variety of categories in medical health technology. For example health technologies include vaccines, medicines, appliances, equipment, blood products and supplies, systems that support the health system, surgical procedures, organization and management systems, blood banks, laboratories, and diverse systems for monitoring. Health information technology can also be clustered according to the purpose in the health system. For example, preventive technologies which can include the management of intra-hospital viruses or to provide the hospital with decontaminated drinking water, and immunizations. Moreover, preventive technologies include a variety of research studies which aims at determining the early stages of disease or risk factors. According to the exercise of the technology it can be problem- solving and disclose the nature, cause, and seriousness of illness.
