Stephanie Lee September 29, 2010 My Research Plan: 1. Introductory sentence providing background: This study examines the anatomic proportions of the spinous processes, considering the optimal sizes of a posterior device of the lumbar spine. I will visually estimate the width of the spinous processes to be used for the design of this device so that Dr. Carl Lauryssen neurosurgeon Beverly Hills can properly design a posterior instrumentation of the lumbar spine. His patients seen at MINK Radiology over the past 5 years who had CT scans of the lumbar spine will have their spinous processes measured. 2. Sentence clearly stating the hypothesis of the project. We predict the spinous processes to be thickest for L2 and L3 ~2.66 mm. 3. Sentence describing the methods/techniques you will use to test your hypothesis. Between January 2006 and September 2010, 250 patients undergoing computed tomography (CT) scans of lumbar spine for various reasons were collected retrospectively for the study.
