K Limitations to the Ideal Gas Law → The ideal gas law is an equation of state for a gas, where the state of the gas is its condition at a given time A particular “state” of gas is described by its pressure, volume, temperature, and no. of moles Knowing any (3) of these properties is enough to define the state of a gas → The ideal gas law is an equation based on experiments → A gas that obeys the equation is said to behave “ideally” It is a limited law it expresses behavior that real gases approach at low pressures at high temperatures → We can say an “ideal gas” is a hypothetical substance But, since most gases obey the ideal equation close enough below pressure at 1 atm, with minimal error, we can use the law Example : How many moles of gas (air) are in the lungs of an average adult with a lung capacity of 3.8-L?
