Solving Inequalities To solve an inequality means to find all the real  numbers that satisfy the inequality. An inequality is solved by creating equivalent  inequalities. Equivalent inequalities are created using  the properties of inequalities.

Properties of Inequalities For real numbers a, b, and c: 1.   If a < b, then a + c < b + c. 2.   If a < b and c is positive, then ac < bc. 3.  If a < b and c is negative, then ac > bc. 4.  If a < b and b < c, then a < c. Note:  the four properties above could have been  written with any of the other three signs.
